Edward Ratner, PhD, Co-founder & President, Research & Development
Ed Ratner has been delivering breakthrough technologies in industry for over 10 years going from concept to product. He was the VP of R&D/Chief Scientist at Pulsent Corp. where he led the development of a proprietary object-based video codec that was benchmarked to be 4x better than MPEG2 for broadcast quality video and 7x for HD quality. The codec performance was validated in independent tests by, among others, Thomson, Sony, and JVC. It resulted in filing of over 50 patents of which over 20 have now issued.
Ed has been a Project Leader at KLA-Tencor where led a remote team in Moscow, Russia. He has also held senior technical positions at Synopsys and Deutsch Research, where his work resulted in dramatic improvements to state of the art algorithms. For his work, Ed was elected to be a Senior Member of IEEE in 2004. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University where he was a Hertz Foundation Fellow. He also won the National Science Foundation and the National Defense Science/Engineering Fellowships. Ed received his B.S. from Caltech were he received the Froehlich Prize for most creative junior and was a Putnam Exam finalist scoring in the top ten individuals among all college juniors in North America.
